Okin and three mountains

Site is auspiciously position between three mountains. Inwang-san, Bukak-san and Ansan. It is directly enroute to a hiking path that ascends Inwangsan. The ritual of hiking and pilgrimage characterises the site, and its connection to an aspect of city life that provides a counterpoint to the daily rhythms of apartment life.

Two sites, very different ground conditions necessitate contrasting modelling techniques. This is informing my intervention strategies.

Weathering does not construct, it destroys?

'The fact of weathering as deterioration has often been associated with modern architecture. The house as a machine for living, Le Corbusiers emblem of a new spirit of equality between the classes, was to be achieved through mass production, and because of this was to be 'healthy' (and morally so too) and beautiful in the same way that instruments that accompany our existence are beautiful.'
